Last week on the FaceBook Page, Accountants Bookkeepers and Business Owners, managed by the School of Bookkeeping folks (this is a great website for not only accountants and bookkeepers but also small business owners to learn all about accounting and other tools), Elaine Orr of Balancesheets.ca, indicated that she was learning all the Transaction Pro Importer acronyms. This comment got me thinking of all the various short names and terminology that the Transaction Pro team and our clients use ever day. So please read below and if you have any to add please add them in the comments below the post.
Various Names for Transaction Pro Importer
Some of our clients get so slap happy with all the time that this tool can save you that they rename our tool in the process below are some of the new names that we have seen over the years.
- The Transporter
- Tee Pee – this client draws out the T and the P so it reminds me of Toilet Paper
- TPI – one of the most common short names as it is just the first letter of each word
Various Name for QuickBooks and QuickBooks Online
As you can image both the Transaction Pro team and our clients refer to QuickBooks all the time so here are some of the more common acronyms that we see.
- QBDT – This is a short name for QuickBooks Desktop which includes Pro, Premier and Enterprise flavors
- QBO – This is a shart name for QuickBooks Online that can be reached via any web browser
- QuickBooks in the Cloud – this could mean QuickBooks Desktop hosted on a remote server or QuickBooks Online
- Company ID or Realm – For QuickBooks Online this can be found under the gear icon in the your account section. This helps us identify with company that you are working with.
- Intuit ID – For QuickBooks Online Intuit uses the OAuth method at the user level to connect Apps to your QuickBooks Online company. When you login into our Transaction Pro App you will see the email address that is associated with your Intuit Id in the upper right hand corner of the web page.
- QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisors – These are consultants that have taken courses and have passed tests created by Intuit to certify that they are knowledgeable in the QuickBooks Product Line.
Various Names for Any Other Things Related to Transaction Pro
There are various pieces of information that the Transaction Pro Team and our clients may send back and forth below are some of the more common ones.
- Import file – This is the file that contains the transactions of lists that you wish to import to QuickBooks. Can be Microsoft Excel, csv or txt.
- Map – This is where you tell Transaction Pro how you want the various columns in your file to be matched to the QuickBooks fields. For QBDT it is a simple notepad document that you can sent to us. For QBO we at Transaction Pro can see how the data has been mapped in our database if you provide us with the QBO company id.
- RefNumber – This is critical. Whatever transactional data that you are importing to QuickBooks, Transaction Pro takes a look at the data that is mapped to the RefNumber field to determine where a transaction starts and ends.
- Transaction Log – this is a file that is generated after import that indicates the Status of each line (eg whether it imported or not). If for some reason a transaction did not import this log will indicate what was wrong with the data in your import file.
- Static Value or Default Value – This allows you to set a value in the mapping that will be used on all lines in the import file.
I hope this is helpful to navigate all the acronyms that you may see when working with QuickBooks and Transaction Pro. We have free trials of all our software available on our website.
