On September 3, 2015 I attended the free QuickBooks Online certification course sponsored by Intuit and sat for and passed the QuickBooks Online certification test. The course was presented by, Michelle Long and MB Raimondi, two very experienced QuickBooks Consultants. A lot of great content was presented but I would like to share with our Transaction Pro for QuickBooks Online users some tips and tricks that might be useful to you while using QuickBooks Online.
Using Keyboard Shortcuts in QuickBooks Online
At the QuickBooks Online certification training I learned that there are many shortcuts that can be used while in a form in QuickBooks Online. For instance is you type in the letter M in a date field QuickBooks Online will populate this field with the First Day of the month. You can also use calculations in amounts and rate fields. You can read more on these shortcuts in the QuickBooks Online support.
There are even more shortcuts available to navigate to certain pages within QuickBooks Online. You can find all keyboard shortcuts available on a Windows machine select CTRL-ALT-QUESTIONMARK from any screen inside a QBO company. If you’re on a Mac, use COMMAND-ALT-QUESTIONMARK. Below is a screenshot of all the keyboard shortcuts available. For instance if you wanted to create a check in QuickBooks Online you would select CTRL-ALT-W.
Setting Bookmarks for QuickBooks Online Pages
You can also use browser bookmarks in lieu of keyboard shortcuts. If you access certain pages in QuickBooks Online frequently you can add them as a bookmark in your web browser. Lets say I want to add a bookmark for the Chart of Accounts to Google Chrome. Navigate to the chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online and then select the star icon at the extreme right of the URL box. Then you can just select the bookmark to access that specific page within QuickBooks Online.
Setting up Different Chrome Users to Access Multiple QuickBooks Online companies at the same time
This is the easiest way to access multiple QuickBooks Online company files at the same time in different Chrome browsers. To set this up go to the Chrome menu the three horizontal lines to the right of the URL bar and select settings. Then scroll down to People and select Add People. After adding another user (person) take a look in the very upper right of your web browser and right mouse click on the user name and you can then see all the Chrome users that you can switch to easily.
So do you use any of these tips to help navigate around QuickBooks Online? Also do you have any other tips to share with other QuickBooks Online users. If so please post your comments below.
